There's Always a Springtime

After the Winter comes the Spring
To show us again that in everything
There's always renewal divinely planned,
Flawlessly perfect, the work of Cod's Hand . . .
And just like the seasons that come and go
When the flowers of Spring lay buried in snow,
Cod sends to the heart in its winter of sadness
A springtime awakening of new hope and gladness,
And loved ones who sleep in a season of death
Will, too, be awakened by God's life-giving breath.

College Night - 27

The Purple Production, "The
Trainman Spins A Yarn", or "The
Recognition", brought a record
high victory to the Purple Side.
Written by Darrell Revel of Huey-
town, and directed by Cam Wat-
son of Shelbyville, Tennessee, the
show proves that "life is a journey
not a destination. "

The young, naive Billy Wayne,
played by Jimbo Wood, leaves his
girlfriend, Jenny Lynn, played by
Susan Goodwin, to venture to
New York City to find fame and
fortune. Through trying to find
success dishonestly, he loses the
one thing he treasures most, Jenny
Lynns love.

.26 - College Night

Other cast members included Darrell Revel as Casey, Alan Selby as the rookie trainman, Deborah
Crowder as Martha, Dwayne Baxter as the Pimp, Bill Murphey as Frank Lucre, Debra Yancey as Flossy
Cann, Patti Whitman as Carta, Phillip Anderson as the cop, Kevin Reardon and Lee Cineras the thugs, P.J:
Alexander as the patrolwoman, Julianne Kee, Kaye Lewis, and Melanie Manear as the Pimpettes, Meg
MacMahon as the cocktail waitress, Matina Limperis as the bag lady, Lyn Hugensmith as the blind lady,
Gale Domokas as the hippy, Suzanne Ford, J.B. Brown and Donna Strickland as the All American Family,
Camilla Millican as the flower child, Renee Bakane as the grandmother, and Rebecca Pool as the radical.
The young hopefuls were Jill Ryan, Becky Strong, Regina Shadwick, Nancy Goltz, and Steve Caskin.

The purple show proved that the quest of life is more valuable than
the actual achieving. The happy ending stressed that "patience is the
evidence of love. "

the event by having an Indian
ambush in the cafe.

SENIOR
MARCH. . .

Senior March, an annual tradition at
UM, is when senior girls initiate freshman
girls into college life. As the chimes strike
midnight on a certain autumn night, mass
pandemonium breaks loose among the
fearful freshman girls. The sinister chants
and ominous costumes strike terror in
the hearts of many. Is this nightmare for
real?

Alpha Delta Pi has had a very successful and fulfilling year.
They began by moving to their new home in Main Dormitory
where they have a brand new Chapter Room. The ADPi's
celebrated after a successful rush by having a pool and hotdog
party. Throughout the year the ADPi's had a variety of small
social events which included a skating party, popcorn parties,
and a mixer with the Alpha Gams at the Courtyard, and a
pledge-active Christmas party.

The Alpha Delta Pi's initiated 27 new sisters in March. The
Spring semester also brought forth their 10th year anniversary
and Chapter Room dedication. Their Spring Formal was
celebrated with "Love and Hate," at the Inverness Country
Club. They honored their graduating seniors with a luncheon
at "The Club" in Birmingham.

As part of their philanthropy project the ADPi's kidnapped
presidents of all Greek organizations. The ransom was cans of
food which were donated to families for Christmas. They also
supported the blood drive.

Omicron Nu, Psi Chi Mu, Kappa Pi, Lambda Sigma Pi, and Alpha
Epsilon Rho. Many Alpha Gams hold offices in these socieities. The
Alpha Gams have also received various honors. They have sisters
selected into Who's Who Among American Colleges and
Universities, National Dean's List, and Most Outstanding Young
Women in America. Doria Gibbons holds the title of Miss Greek,
while Beth Bradford holds the title of Miss U of M. Three of the sisters
of Alpha Gam serve as Montevallo Masters. The Alpha Gams are very
active in the SGA, as well as the Justice Council. The Alpha Gams are
very active in College Night and have had the position of Purple
Leader for the past six years. They also are represented in every
fraternity with little sisters.

Alpha Gams hold the positions of editor and business manager for
the MONTAGE, section editors for the ALABAMIAN, and head and
co-head cheerleaders for the UM Falcons. The Alpha Gams were first
among Greek intramurals and second in Greek Week.

This year the Alpha Gams celebrated their 10th Anniversary with a
Spring Formal at the Civic Center in Birmingham, with a banquet held
prior to the dance. The Alpha Gams enjoyed an Easter party for the
Speech and Hearing Clinic as they teamed up with the brothers of Pi
Kappa Alpha.

CHI OMEGA

The Chi Omega's have had a very fun and successful year. The first party was held in November at the Inverness Country Club.
The theme was a "Chi-O-Carribean" and the party was a big success. For a Christmas project the Chi O's sponsored a family with
two young children, supplying food for their Christmas dinner and gave toys to the children. Also during the fall semester the Chi
O's honored their parents with a banquet.

For Chi O's service project, the Chi Omega's sponsored a bike-a-thon for the American Cancer Society. This was a great success,
since they were able to contribute $1,161,00 to the Cancer Society.

During the spring semester the Chi O's honored their favorite professors with a dinner. For their final celebration, they held their
Spring Formal at the Sheraton Riverfront in Montgomery.

The Chi Omegas received the scholarship trophy for the fall semester, and also received third place in Greek Week.

PHI MU

The Phi Mu's began the year with excitement and
anticipation of RUSH. After a lot of hard work and hours of
practice, 32 terrific girls pledged Phi Mu. The annual date party
was the next calendar event. A new theme was created — a
"Crush Party." Dancing, games, and Sunkist soft drinks
highlighted this lakehouse party. As the semester progressed,
plans were made for the Fall Formal. It was held at the
Rodeway Inn in Birmingham. During November the Phi Mu's
then had their Thanksgiving Service at the United Methodist
Church.

Second semester began with fun in the snow, inspiration
week, and initiation. Each year Phi Mu has a fund raiser to
support the philanthropy Project Hope. A new idea of selling
carnations was instigated, three colors were sold each
signifying a feeling. Approximately $200.00 was raised. The
Spring Formal was held in Gatlinburg, with music by the
"Hitmen." After Spring break, the Apple Polisher was held.
This faculty tea allowed members to meet many professors on
our campus. The Phi Mu's Spring date party carried a theme
with a popular fashion trend — Phi Mu Regatta. It was held at
Logan Martin Lake. The last party, dedicated to the old
members, was the Big Sister-Little Sister party. Skits were
presented from the fifties to the eighties decades. The Phi
Class chapter gift was a piano.

The Alpha Tau Omega's are known on campus as the "milk and cookie boys" and they continue to live up to that title. For a fund
raising project the ATO's went to the girls dorms and read them bedtime stories and served them milk and cookies right before they
tucked the girls in for bed.

The ATO's also hosted several successful lakehouse parties. Whenever the ATO's are behind a party you can be sure that there
will be much Disco music and movements. ATO's are the best Disco Dancers on campus and can always be seen getting down to
that "Jivin' Funky Music."

ATO's had a number of successful rush parties, such as the one at Ripp Tide, and the hay ride they hosted. Their annual formal was
held in Destin, Florida and this gave them a chance to spend time together while soaking up some rays.

Mark Rich was chosen as Mr. Greek, and the ATO's were #1 in Greek Week. David Coker was chosen as Gold Leader for College
Night 1983.

The Alpha Tau Omega's were given an award for the highest G.P.A., and received an all-sports trophy.

DELTA CHI

The 1981-82 school year has proven to be an excellent year
for the Delta Chi's. At present they have near 50 brothers and
pledges, as well as 23 young ladies in the Chi Delphia Little
Sister Organization. In the past year they have held many
social events. These include a "Come as your Hero" party, A
"Country Western" Party, and their fourth annual "Toga" par-
ty. Other functions included their annual Pig Roast and Alumni
Day, A brother and little sister Christmas party, a cookout for
little sisters, and visits to nearby Delta Chi Chapters. The Hal-
loween season was a frightening experience as Delta Chi host-
ed a Haunted House. The house provided fun for both the
brothers and their guests, as they raised money for charity. In
December they teamed up with the sisters of Chi Omega for
the second annual "Toys for Tots" party.

Athletically the Delta Chi's placed in nearly all intramural
events. Delta Chi placed first in "A" team bowling and racquet-
ball, and second in softball. They received the spirit trophy for
attending the baseball and basketball games, having the most
attendance percentage wise than any other fraternity.

The Delta Chi's have brothers in various positions of leader-
ship and responsibility. They are involved with the SGA, Mon-
tevallo Masters, ODK, ROTC, Cheerleader squad, College
Night, and seventh national honor societies. They were also
represented at the Greek Christian Conference in Knoxville,
Tennessee.

LAMBDA CHI ALPHA

The Lambda Chi's social calendar was filled to the max!
During the fall and spring semesters, the brothers provided
Montevallo students with some great theme parties. One
theme party was the ever popular Toga Party. This was a party
for serious partiers. The brothers also had a Generic party
which was very successful and original. Another party was the
very exclusive Country Club Party. The event of the year was
the annual Rock-a-Thon. The entertainment for this event
consisted of some local bands along with Telluride, the main
attraction. This party began at 12:00 P.M. and lasted until 12:00
A.M. This was a time for everyone to get together and just let
loose and be radical.

The Lambda Chi's also held their annual Barbeque, a time
where the alumnus and the little sisters spend the whole day
together along with the brothers. The weather was beautiful
and all the new little sisters and brothers got to know each
other better. Darrell Revell was a major asset to the PURPLE
VICTORY and Chuck Mauer will be Purple leader for College
Night 1983.

The Lambda Chi's also participated in the March of Dimes
Walk-a-thon, and the Heart Association was the purpose of
their Rock-a-thon.

PI KAPPA ALPHA

The Pi Kappa Alpha's had an awesome social calendar,
which included several theme parties. The Halloween party
was one of the Pike's theme parties and a variety of different
costumes submerged such as raisins, Steve Martin, punkers,
vampires, the traditional witch, and even some dressed up
Prepsters made the scene. The pikes brought the beach to
Montevallo in December with a Myrtle Beach Party at the
college lakehouse. This was the first Shag party to take place.
The Greeks were swaying to beach tunes by the Supremes and
Beach Boys. Greek life is somewhat different than that of Pine
Manor, Princeton or even the University of Alabama, but
Montevallo got a little help from Chapel Hill students.

During the Spring semester the Pike's held a Tacky Tourist
party. At this party people came really decked out — in Stripes,
plaids, and motif prints were mixed for disgustingly TACKY
outfits. The PKA's held their Luau and this included the
brothers, their dates, alumnae, little sisters and their dates. This
was a perfect time for them to all be together.

PI KAPPA PHI

The Pi Kappa Phi had their house remodeled and
redecorated. All Greeks swarmed the open and ever popular
MASH party during Fall Semester. The generous Pi Kappa Phi's
supplied plenty of EXCELLENT brew, fellowship, and
"gatoring". Those of you who don't quite know exactly what
gatoring is, a definition and demonstration can be learned from
the professional gatorers of the Pi Kapps — just ask any one of
them. Paige Howard was chosen Sweetheart of the Fall pledge
class, and Claire Bonner was chosen Sweetheart of the Spring
pledge class.

This year the annual Rose Ball was held in Gulf Shores. Jan
Hancock was chosen as the Rose Ball Queen. John Pendergast
was Purple Leader and was a big part of the 1982 Purple
Victory.

nament. They won the AAIAW West District title, their
fifth straight year to either tie for or win outright their
district. They won the state championship for the sec-

Lady Falcons'
Basketball

The Lady Falcons had a disappointing
year as they ended the season with a 4-19
record. However, the season did have its
bright spots, as the Lady Falcons managed
to pull a pair of victories from both Judson
and Talladega, and Corliss Cooper was
named to the All-State Team, the first
Treshman ever to do so. Head Coach
Becky Class was encouraged by the
team's improvement at the end of the
year.

Being the editor of the 1982 MONTA CE has been a rewarding experience as well as a challenging one. I have not
only made new friends and met a lot of the administration, but I have also learned responsiblity to others.

Creating a book to please everyone is a hard task. This year the MONTAGE staff has worked many long hours
during the week, week-ends, and even weeks after school was out to put together a memorable book.

I u ould personally like to thank each staff member for his and her dedication in completing each section of the
book. Special thanks to Andy Russell for his help with many of the pictures used in the book. Without him, we
would have never made it.

I hanks again to all that had a part in the yearbook. I hope that each and every person that looks through the
book will enjoy and treasure it in the years to come.

Julia 5. Rudd
Editor
